Observator WindObserver™ 90 2-Axis Ultrasonic Anemometer Range

The WindObserver 90 has been developed for measuring the highest wind speeds in extreme weather environments such as typhoons and hurricanes and is available with optional heating. The sensor provides data via RS422/RS485 bidirectional link, which allows several units to be networked together and data logged on demand. With innovative transducer design, this anemometer boasts a very high wind speed range of 0 – 90 m/s (0-201 mph) and gives an output status indicating the validity of data, so that you can be confident that the instrument is providing accurate information. With an IP66 rated stainless steel construction, this anemometer meets the stringent performance criteria specified by wind turbine manufacturers, airports, marine, oil and gas production, and meteorological organisations around the world. Below is an example of the excellent performance of the WO90 sensor as recently tested in the independent third party Deutsche WindGuard high speed tunnel in Bremerhaven, Germany. The graph shows the tunnel speed with some minor variations around 90 m/s with the WO90 producing very accurate data at this speed with errors no larger than ±2 m/s (roughly 2%) at this new benchmark for high speed wind sensing.

Helideck Monitoring System

Observator instruments offers the widest range of different helideck monitoring systems. The helideck monitoring system are designed to measure all weather conditions during helicopter landing and take-off operations in order to improve both flight and passenger safety. The helideck monitoring system can interface with all different weather sensors like wind speed, wind direction, QFE/QNH Barometric, Temperature, Humidity, Visibility Motion and Cloud Height. There are many options available for a.o. fixed and floating platforms F(P)SO and diving support vessels. The Helideck Monitoring systems are based on the requirements of the latest CAP-437, Standards for Offshore Helicopter Landing Areas, 7th Edition. The system also meets the requirements of the Helideck Certification Agency (HCA) as described in Standards Helideck Monitoring Systems Rev8c.Standard HMS systems require the following parameters: • Wind speed and direction • Temperature • Humidity • Dew Point • Barometric pressure (QFH / QNH) • Visibility • Present Weather • Cloud height • Motion (for floating rigs or vessels) Offshore meteorological observations require devices designed to wind stand the hardest environmental conditions such as heavy vibrations, sea spray and extremes of temperature.

Observator OMC-160 Wind Speed & Direction Sensor

The popular and often used wind sensor OMC-160 is a combined wind speed and direction sensor, based on the cup and vane principle. Having chosen for the highest quality stainless steel materials and internal non-contact measuring devices, this sensor stands for a long life time, having the highest accuracies within both the low range as well as the high range wind speeds. This sensor is commonly used within the shipping and offshore industry but can also be found on many airfields, container terminals and harbors, along highways and on bridges. The OMC-160 comprises a combined in-line wind speed and wind direction sensor. The system is robust, corrosion resistive and easy to install. The wind speed sensor is a rotary-cup type, made UV resistant high quality polycarbonate. The wind direction sensor is a wind vane type, made from stainless steel. The wind sensor is supplied with a RS422 NMEA0183 output. Output frequency standard 4 Hz. Option 1 Hz. Baudrate standard 4800 option 9600. The wind sensor comes with a vertical mounting bracket which includes a junction box and two u-bolds for mast mounting. The OMC-160 is a cup and vane anemometer. Cup and vane anemometers are the most common instrumentation for measurement of wind speed and direction. Cup and vane anemometers are the primary sensors for wind measurement used by the leading meteorological services all over the world. Therefore the readings of the OMC-160 anemometer are inter-comparable with the readings of other cup and vane anemometers without any conversions.

Observator OMC-116 Full metal Ultrasonic wind sensor

Marine meteorological observations require devices designed to withstand the hardest environmental conditions such like heavy vibrations, sea spray, extreme colds, chemical particles etc. With a major track record the Marine and offshore market is the home market for the Observator meteorological product line. The OMC-116 is a ultrasonic wind sensor based on the time of flight theory. The unit is provided with industrial standard NMEA0183 output and can optionally be provided with 4.20 mA signals. The robust design in sea worthy alu and stainless steel as well the standard available heating makes this unit ideal for the hardest environments. The standard bracket with integrated junction box makes this unit easy to install. The OMC-116M Ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensor comes standard with an industrial mounting bracket provided with 2 U-bolts suitable for mast mounting (max 65 mm dia.). An integrated junction box allows easy connection of sensor signal and power supply using standard cabling. The internal heater should be powered separately if used. The sensor can be congured to enable or disable the heater. In applications where heating is not required (and hence disabled), the OMC-116 can be powered directly from an Obsermet display or data logger. In cases where the heater is to be used (advised in cases where temperatures below zero may be expected) an external 24 Vdc power supply should be used with a capacity of not less that 250 watts. The unit comes complete with a calibration certicate at no extra cost. Although the unit is maintenance free and does not need re-calibration, it is possible to return the sensor for a re-calibration if required.
